Geneva police on the hunt for porch pirate

Local News

GENEVA, Ala. (WDHN) — A Geneva police officer located a stolen generator Thursday night in the bed of a pick-up truck.

Authorities said it’s the most recent case of a porch pirate during the holiday season.

Police have a person of interest and hope to make an arrest in the case soon, but residents are advised to not leave any valuables in public view.

“These thefts are thefts of opportunity,” Captain Michael McDuffie said. “No one’s at home. They ride by and see items sitting on the porch, they got them and gone with them in just a matter of seconds.”

McDuffie said if you see a strange vehicle driving slowly in your neighborhood, he or she may be looking for a crime of opportunity so try to get the license plate number and report it to local law enforcement.
