Geneva, Ala. (WDHN)—On Tuesday, Geneva businessman David Hayes defeated former
city councilman Greg Adams for mayor.
Geneva mayor-elect Hayes says as a business owner he sees a lot of things
other people wouldn’t normally see.
First, he wants to “Clean-up” the municipality and make it more presentable to
prospective business and industry.
He also wants to continue the work that has already taken place in correcting
drainage issues citywide.
Hayes says “We want to get out there, get after it. Let the people see the results immediately. I want it to be effective immediately, and let our towns’ people get behind it and hopefully have a united front. Work toward having
a better Geneva.”
Hayes further says “up until the mid-1990’s several textile plants were based in the City of Two Rivers, employing thousands of residents.”
Many blame the Clinton Administration’s signing of the “North American Free Trade
Agreement”, or better known as NAFTA shipping textile jobs
To china and other Asian nations.
