Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms says his department has seen a slight “uptick” in residential burglaries

Geneva Co., Ala. (WDHN)—Sheriff Helms says “have a good list of items, just don’t tell us a saw, or a drill. We need good serial numbers. That’s what we need the most of anything.”

Sheriff Helms adds “one of the biggest problems we have right now is people who go out of town and post that on Facebook, or social media that they’ll be out of town.
That they’re going to Grandma’s or going somewhere. Well, you are essentially inviting someone to come to your house and break-in.”

In addition, installing a home security camera and alarm system
Is helpful in locating the suspects.
The sheriff says most of all lock your vehicles. An “Unlocked” vehicle is an invitation for the criminal element
To strike.

Sheriff Helms says the holidays are, unfortunately, becoming “The thevin season”. He says an ounce of prevention is worth
A pound of cure.
