Geneva, Ala. (WDHN)—Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms says law enforcement often refers to the
Christmas Holiday period as the “Season for Thieving”.
Sheriff Helms says it’s unfortunate, but the criminal element often considers the holidays’
as a period of opportunity.
In today’s society, “rip-offs” can occur either physically or on-line. The sheriff says
it’s important for folks to just be aware of their surroundings’, and be careful of
what personal information you use on the internet, or when posting on social media.
Sheriff Helms says when putting out your garbage can next week, make sure no gift boxes
can be seen from the street. Crooks often check garbage cans to see what merchandise
may be in the home.
