Geneva beautification reaches final stages

GENEVA, Ala. (WDHN) — Geneva Mayor Frankie Lindsey said the third and final phase of the downtown district’s sidewalk beautification project is close to completion.

The Alabama Department of Transportation’s beautification project stretches several blocks along the east side of Commerce Street. It includes the installation of retro LED street lamps.

Lindsey said the goal is to draw residents and visitors back to the downtown shopping district.

“The better looking you can make your town, the more attraction it is for people to come in town when they come through and look and see what kind of pride we have here in Geneva, and things are looking up quite a bit right now,” Lindsey said. “We got a lot of projects here in Geneva.”

The final phase of the sidewalk project costs $600,000, but the state and city are sharing the expense with each paying $300,000.
