DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The former mayor of Gordon received a year in prison in a sentencing hearing Wednesday.

Judge Kevin Moulton approved a three-year split sentence that will allow Elbert Melton to serve two years of probation following his stint in prison.

But things aren’t over for Melton yet, as he and his new defense attorney Billy Joe Sheffield are planning to appeal the conviction.

Aside from that, Melton awaits trial for a theft accusation as well.
