Escaped juveniles recaptured and found in stolen vehicle

TROY, Ala. (WDHN) – Two male escapees from the Alabama Department of Youth Services were taken into custody by the Troy Police Department on Wednesday around 11 a.m.

Officers first discovered the 16 and 17-year-old in the area of Woodland Hills Apartments in Troy in a stolen 2018 Toyota Tundra which they allegedly took from Phenix City.

When officers first spotted the subjects, both fled on foot. The 16-year-old was taken into custody a couple of hours later on U.S. 29 near Dunbar Drive.

According to a press release issued by Troy Police Chief Randall Barr, both juveniles have confessed to multiple burglaries and theft of several vehicles from multiple jurisdictions.

The teens, who were from Brundidge and Clayton, have been returned to the custody of the Alabama Department of Youth Services where they await a court appearance at an undetermined date.
