ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — Mayor Bill Cooper made January “Human Trafficking Awareness Month” in a proclamation Friday morning.
Cooper said the city is committed to ensuring the community remains on the frontlines in fighting trafficking.
This proclamation is not just for the month of January though it’s year-round.
“This proclamation just says, hey it’s out there, and we need the citizens to be vigilant to this and bring it to our attention anytime there’s a suspected human trafficking,” interim Chief Michael Moore said.
The U.S. Department of State estimates that anywhere from 600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders each year.
