ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — The Farmers Market Boll Weevil Statue “Bo” was installed Tuesday, which means Farmers Market season is coming up!
The season’s kickoff gets underway at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Enterprise Farmers Market. The kickoff will be loaded with a number of vendors, featuring produce, jams, jellies, salsas, relishes, baked goods, and arts and crafts.
This year’s Season Kickoff will make for a special one. The Kickoff will feature newcomers Bryan Sawyer and Jeffery Odom, who grow hydroponic crops, along with organically grower Rachel Hawkins of Hawkins Homestead Farm.
“We have many of our familiar growers coming back to share their good produce with us again this year, and we are welcoming some new growers as well,” Market Manager Kay Kirkland said.
The Kickoff will uphold many traditions which include making tomato sandwiches. If you want to try some new and creative things, there is room for that too.
“We may even have some banana, peanut butter, and pineapple if someone wants to really have a southern sandwich experience!” She said.
The Season Kickoff is open to the public Saturday morning. A few door prizes will be given out, and children will be able to plant their own vegetable seeds in a pot to take home and nurture.
