ELBA, Ala. (WDHN) — An Elba woman is behind bars after allegedly stealing a Coffee County deputy’s vehicle Friday morning.

According to Chief Deputy Ronnie Whitworth, the deputy found Corie Lamb, 31, while she walked down a road in the rural Basin community south of Elba around 6:30 a.m.

Lamb told the deputy that she was walking to her grandmother’s house, but when she was turned away, the deputy took her to a home on County Road 406 in the backseat of his Tahoe at her request.

When the deputy went to the door, Lamb reportedly got into the front seat of the car and took off with it.

She allegedly tried to leave it at a truck stop in Elba but was arrested shortly after.

Lamb is now in the Coffee County Jail on a first-degree theft of property.
