ELBA, Ala. (WDHN) — The Elba Volunteer Fire department received a $51,000 grant.
It’s the fifth grant the department has received in the last decade.
In past years, the money has been used in buying new trucks, but this time it went to state-of-the-art extraction equipment.
Its battery-powered which saves time when someone is trapped in a vehicle.
“This you can just one-man grab it, bring it to the scene, and the batteries last long enough for anything we can use it for,” firefighter Mark Kelly said. “We can swap it out real quick. We keep 18 extra batteries and a charger.”
In the past, the city received funds for an airboat that has been used in rescue missions on the Pea River.
