BONIFAY, Fla. (WDHN) — The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office made a pair of arrests Thursday in an elderly neglect case.
An HCSO release states warrants were issued against Federick Joe Johnston, 52, of Bonifay when they discovered he was allegedly exploiting a 72-year-old woman by medically neglecting her. He also reportedly used her vehicle and bank card in the process.
But that’s not all deputies found. While searching Johnston’s home on Sherwood Drive, they also found the remains of a meth lab, including the chemical components of the drug as well as “several grams of finished product.”
As a result, Johnston is charged with neglect of elderly with great harm, exploitation of elderly ($10K to under $50K), possession of methamphetamine, possession of listed chemicals/manufacturing a controlled substance, and possession of narcotic equipment.
Authorities also said Johnston did not act alone, having arrested Dothan resident Cynthia Lynn Martinez, 54, of Dothan in the case in connection to the elderly neglect charge.
