DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan police arrested a man Monday for allegedly abusing a child.

Timothy Wayne Culpepper, 41, was taken into custody at 11:35 p.m. after the department was notified in the crime.

Lt. Lynn Watkins told News 18 that as of right now, no other information concerning the victim will be released to prevent causing the child further embarrassment. However, the Dothan Eagle reports that the victim is an 8-year-old boy.

Culpepper’s charge is listed as “Torture/Willful Abuse Of Child-Family” on the Dothan City Jail’s booking report, which is a Class C felony. It is defined by Alabama  law as a crime committed by a “responsible person, as defined in Section 26-15-2, who shall torture, willfully abuse, cruelly beat, or otherwise willfully maltreat any child under the age of 18 years.”

If convicted, Culpepper could face up to 10 years in prison. Currently, he sits behind bars on a $10,000 bond.
