DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan police have charged a woman with aggravated child abuse after a 5-year-old was found seriously injured.
A release states that the department began its investigation after a faculty member told a Dothan School Resource Officer that a 5-year-old student “was having a medical issue” from a physical injury. The student was then taken to a hospital for treatment.
The Dothan Police Department Special Investigations Unit began investigating, looking into the child’s medical records and conducting multiple interviews.
After reviewing the evidence, the department said that last Friday morning, the suspect, Chiquita Hunter, 25, disciplined the child and began to kick the child in the chest. The attack caused serious injury to the victim.
After interviewing her, police arrested Hunter in connection to the case. She was arrested in connection to the case.
She has received a bond of $60,000.
