Dothan mayor on Clark’s victory: ‘She’s our hometown hero’

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan’s very own Kelsey Barnard Clark is the newest winner of Bravo’s Top Chef.

Foster Street was packed as Clark and hundreds of her supporters watched as the season finale revealed her as this season’s winner.

“We love her,” Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba said. “She’s our hometown hero tonight and that’s what we’re here to celebrate.”

A key to the city, a governor’s proclamation declaring March 14, 2019 as Kelsey Barnard Clark Day and her very own peanut statue were just a few of the honors given to the Top Chef champ.

“I just wanted to make Dothan proud and I wanted to make my family proud and my friends proud,” Top Chef winner Kelsey Clark said. “That’s what’s kept me going this entire time through the challenges.”

The now-nationally known chef had supporters travel from near and far to watch the final result live.

Many said they considered the win an achievement for not only Clark, but also for the city of Dothan.

“Winning Top Chef puts you on the map in a big way,” said viewer, Ray Hydrick. “People will realize who you are and they will travel to Dothan and spend money here because they know that you are a Top Chef winner.”

In addition to being the newest Top Chef champion, Clark was also voted as this season’s fan favorite.
