DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A Dothan man pleaded guilty Monday to manslaughter for the death of his friend back in May 2018.

On May 19, 2018, Christian Mullins and Fisher Corbin Shipes were at a friend’s house when Shipes found a gun. Believing that the gun was not loaded, Shipes pointed it at Mullins and pulled the trigger, shooting his friend in the torso.

Mullins was taken to the hospital for treatment but died shortly after. As a result, Shipes was charged with manslaughter.

He initially pleaded not guilty, but more than one year after Mullins’ death, Shipes pleaded guilty to the charge.

His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2020.
