DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan police arrested a man Monday on manslaughter and elder abuse charges after the death of his mother.

Investigators followed up on an elderly neglect report from the Houston County Department of Human Resources only to find that the 82-year-old victim in question died at a local hospital Sunday.

Through medical records and information from other relatives, officers found that the victim’s son James Parrish, 61, was the victim’s caretaker. Lt. Scott Owens said Parrish neglected his mother’s medical problems and did not provide proper care, leading to her death.

He is now in the Houston County Jail on charges for manslaughter and first-degree elder abuse with no bond.
