Dothan has a history of school sex scandals

Local News

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A Dothan High School teacher was arrested Friday after being accused of having sex with a student.

Julia Engle, 29, was booked into the Dothan City Jail after police charged her with one count of a “school employee engaging in a sexual act with a student under the age of 19 years.”

That’s the technical term for the law she’s accused of breaking.

Yet, sex with students now seems to be a trend in the Wiregrass.

In 2012, Rehobeth High School science teacher Robert Lee Michel, was arrested after a mother caught him naked in bed with her 16-year-old daughter.

A year later, in 2013, Dothan High resource officer Lanice Bonds was arrested after having sex with a 17-year-old student.

Three years later, in 2016, Beverlye Magnet School band director, Robert Leslie Lee, was arrested for engaging in a sex act with a student.

In 2017, another school resource officer at Dothan High School, Adrian Alexander Folmar, was arrested for having sexual contact with a student.

A year later, in 2018, a Northview staff member, Jason Ford, was arrested for attempting to convince teenage girls to send him sexually explicit content of themselves.

Engle now continues the trend, but is the first female teacher in the Wiregrass to face the charge.
