Dothan Food Depot robbed; employee assaulted

Local News

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan police made an arrest after the Food Depot off of Columbia Highway was robbed around 2:00 p.m. Thursday.

Sgt. Jeremy Kendrick with the Dothan Police Department said an individual went inside the store to steal some merchandise. One of the employees confronted the suspect, which caused him to throw the items down and attempt to leave.

One employee tried to detain him and was assaulted by the suspect. The officers stopped him right down the road from the scene and arrested him for assault.

Kendrick said he thinks the employees handled the situation the right way.

“They did exactly what they were supposed to do,” he said. “They called ahead of time. They saw the individual that was depriving them of their merchandise. We got here pretty quickly; in fact, he was leaving out of the store as we were arriving.”

Kendrick said there is no name for the suspect yet.
