DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — With school departments set to receive more CARES Act funding, Dothan City Schools plans to use it to raise substitute teacher rates.
Due to many teachers having to take medical or personal leave due to the pandemic, schools have found themselves needing more substitute teachers.
DCS hopes to attract more teachers by raising the daily pay rate depending on a person’s level of education.
“We currently have permanent substitutes at each school that we have there every day in the event that somebody is out; typically they are, but yes we will be using the extension of the federal funds to help us offset this cost,” acting Superintendent Dr. Dennis Coe said.
The lowest rate is $70 per day with the highest reaching $120 a day.
