DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan City Schools announced its Teachers of the Year Friday morning.
While still dealing with a COVID-19-filled year, teachers have overcome numerous obstacles in order to educate our children.
DCS officials went to Dothan High School and Jerry Lee Faine Elementary School with flowers, balloons, and the whole nine yards.
Winners Angeila Scarborough and Gina Burdeshaw say they never saw the honor coming.
“I don’t even feel worthy, but I want to say thank you to all of the parents, students, principals, superintendents,” said Scarborough, an elementary school teacher at Jerry Lee Faine. “I’ve had and just say thank you.”
“I was shocked number one to get the vote my coworkers did for me,” said Burdeshaw, a graphic arts teacher at Dothan High. “I was actually shocked, but now this is overwhelming because there’s so many great teachers over there.”
The teachers will now represent Dothan at the state level for Alabama Teacher of the Year.
