DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Kite Day almost turned into Fright Day for Kelly Springs Elementary School on Friday.
The sound of gunshots resulted in the school going into a code red lockdown for the first time until things were safe.
Some of the neighbors at the Kelly Spring North and South subdivisions said they didn’t hear the shots on Friday, and the news came as a surprise because the community is known as peaceful and quiet.
Scott Faulk, Dothan City Schools director of safety, security and attendance, said keeping students and staff safe is always a top priority.
“We appreciate the support of the Dothan Police Department in keeping us informed of the progress of the incident,” Faulk said. “Everyone was safe. Again, I appreciate what the school administration did as far as recognizing there could be a concern of regarding safety and acting upon that quickly.”
DPD is looking for a white sedan that was reported to have been the vehicle involved.
