DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Houston County residents will soon decide whether their probate judge needs to be an attorney in order to hold the job.
At this time, the only pre-requisite is that the candidate be living in the county they vote in.
Houston County Probate Judge Patrick Davenport hopes the measure will be approved by the electorate. He feels members of the Bar association are better equipped to handle the issues of the office.
“So in my opinion justice demands it to ensure that the right outcome is brought about because the judge has an education and understanding of what the lawyers are arguing,” Judge Patrick Davenport said.
The judge hopes the amendment will pass next Tuesday.
