DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan Police Department has charged a man for allegedly robbing a local gas station.

Officers responded to an armed robbery around 3:45 p.m. Thursday at the Shell station near Porter Square Mall.

According to dispatchers, a black man in his 50s was seen running from the store with a knife toward the downtown McDonald’s.

That information led to police taking Hansel Burney, 72, into custody.

“Patrol officers were able to apprehend him about a block away,” Lt. Lynn Watkins said. “He received some minor injuries, but he received medical treatment for it. He’ll be arrested for robbery first-degree.”

His charges include second-degree robbery as well, according to the department’s website.
