WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WDHN) — Law enforcement in Washington County has taken a jab at the local drug trade after its latest round of arrests, according to a release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Twenty-six people are now facing felony drug charges after an investigation uncovered multiple people believed to be dealing drugs in Washington County. 19 of those people have already been arrested while the other seven remain at large.

“During these undercover operations, we focus on the source of the numerous drug arrests in our area, the dealers,” Sheriff Kevin Crews said. “People who are selling illegal narcotics are preying on our youth and those battling addictions.”

These operations were carried out by the Washington County Drug Task Force, a joint task force with support from both the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Chipley Police Department.

Despite not getting all of their targets, authorities say the operation still fulfilled its purpose.

“The success of this operation is in knowing that multiple dealers were removed from our streets,” said Scott Thompson, Chipley police chief.

At any rate, Crews said drug dealers have no place in his home.

“They are not welcome in Washington County, and I will not allow them to continue poisoning our communities,” Crews said.

Both Thompson and Crews said that cracking down on drug crime will end up having a positive effect on other parts of the area as well.

“As we continue to make these drug-related arrests, we continue to see our overall crime decrease in our communities,” Crews said.
