Local floral shop sales booming during Valentine’s Day rush

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Mums Florist and Gifts located on Westgate Parkway hasn’t been open for business very long, as they just opened their doors during the pandemic on Mother’s Day weekend last year.

“We kinda jumped in feet first we didn’t have anything in the shop except flowers but we got quite a few orders which was great everybody was really welcoming its a busy weekend its actually the busiest floral weekend in the United States,” Office manager Mindy Porterfield said.

For the past nine months, the floral shop has been faring out well despite missing out on prom season and weddings which may have been delayed or canceled. But, the shop has a chance to play catch up as they are getting ready for the second biggest floral holiday — Valentine’s Day.

Porterfield says the phones have been ringing off the hook since they opened. Although they can’t compare to last year, this year’s holiday weekend is off to a great start.

“We have sold out quite a few arrangements that we weren’t expecting to sell out of earlier than we expected so we been really pleased with that and we’re getting a lot of orders out of state that cant come and visit with family so that been great,” Porterfield said. “We have reached and surpassed some goals for sure.”

And if you’re still shopping for that special person, Mums still has flowers and gifts in stock.

“We still have flowers to sell so if you need flowers call us or visit our website if they’re not comfortable getting out to shop or they are busy at work we are still delivering to local areas like Midland City, Wicksburg, all those areas,” She said.

Porterfield also added how big of help the Dothan Chamber of Commerce has been to their new business.
