Local financial advisers chime in on state’s budget success

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Tuesday night, Gov. Ivey gave her State of the State address — addressing progress the state has made since she became governor in 2017.

Ivey wants to do something about the state’s prison system, raises for teachers, new state troopers, and how the the state has been doing financially.

Some may wonder why we’re doing so well.

“Well the reason we’re looking so good is because the last few years have been a remarkable rise in the stock market, and with investments of all kinds,” Ariss Financial Adviser Marc Hall said. ” So, especially on the U.S. Side. So, if you’ve been investing solely in U.S. Stocks over the past few years you have seen tremendous gains.”

Gains that counties, cities, and states that financial advisers say have gotten by making good investment choices over the past few years since the recession in 2008.

Ivey said we are enjoying the best of times and the state’s budget reflects that. But, she warns that with a changing environment bad times may arise in the future.

Financial advisers say as of right now bad times aren’t likely.

“I don’t believe, and I think if you look at analysts that are talking right now, even the most pessimistic of analysts really can’t put a recession of any kind happening over the next year into maybe a two year period before we see something like that,” hall said.
