Local distillery helps businesses by making hand sanitizer

HEADLAND Ala. (WDHN) — With essential businesses still open, some are finding it difficult getting hand sanitizer for their business.

“Right now it’s very hard for the Wiregrass Area Food Bank to find hand sanitizer,” Wiregrass Area Food Bank Assistant Director Julie Gonzalez said. “We are considered an essential service, and we are staying open right now trying to meet the needs of the community.”

Gibson Distilling Inc., a distillery in Headland, is making and giving out hand sanitizer. Businesses, however, can call and tell how much they need in advance.

“We’ll get as much as we can made up for you and have it as soon as we possibly can,” said Drew Keel, of Gibson Distilling Inc.

Businesses around Headland have been helped out and are grateful.

“Having somebody local that’s producing it allows us to have a good source,” Bottletree’s Whitney Woodham said. “So, when we’re preparing foods and packaging foods to-go orders and curbside orders we have someone local that we can use.”

The distillery is planning on making it until they are out of supplies.

“We can only do up to five gallons per time we can make it right now,” Keel said. “To make sure it can around as far as possible.”
