SAMSON, Ala. (WDHN) — February is Black History Month.

On Sunday, a Black History musical celebration took place at the Good Hope Mt. Olive Baptist Community Church in Samson.

Several congregation members performed everything from Ella Fitzgerald to Mo-town hits. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I have a dream” speech was also re-enacted at the celebration.

Reverend Nelson Williams says we’ve come a long way, but the journey is not complete.

“We want to thank you for the healing that took place and how you helped with healing in our lives God,” Rev. Williams said.

With February winding down, several other African American events are planned across the Wiregrass over the next few weeks.
