Lawsuit: School neglected 1st grader sexually abused by classmates

News

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama school system is being sued by parents who say officials knew their first grade daughter was being sexually assaulted by other students but did nothing about it.

News outlets report the Hoover City Schools system and teachers at Trace Crossings Elementary School are being sued for negligence.

The lawsuit said female classmates sexually assaulted the girl by holding her down, pulling off her underwear and groping her.

It said the school notified the parents well after the assault and said they’d change her classroom. They didn’t.

The lawsuit said the abuse continued; One student bit the girl’s face and lip.

It said the girl is now homeschooled and suffers from severe emotional distress.

Hoover filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit. Plaintiffs have until October to respond.
