DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) – The consolidation era for Dothan City Schools is expected to begin in August of 2019and while some schools will be closing their doors others are preparing for the transition.
One of those school’s is Kelly Springs Elementary. The school will become an international baccalaureate school that will focus on six themes of global significance for students in the classroom and the world outside.
Principal Wanda Dismukes says she excited about the change but says there is still much work to be done.
“We will have additional students because of the zoning changes,” Dismukes said.
“We have already had a meet and greet because half of our staff will be new next year. We’ve had some activities for them we had a meet and greet with current parents and students and our new incoming parents and students.”
“We’re trying to teach our students and adults as well that without change we don’t grow,” Dismukes said. “Dothan city is experiencing a lot of change right now but I think that its a necessary change for us to move forward as a system.”
