DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Normally during the month of January, tornadoes are not prevalent in the southeast due to cooler weather.
However, over the past few years with the warm weather around this time of year, there have been some tornadoes.
It’s not normal for there to be a severe weather outlook this early in the year.
“This time around we are expecting a squall line with damaging straight-line winds in it, but there could be isolated embedded tornadoes and even isolated supercells that could have tornadoes in them,” Warning Coordination Meteorologist Mark Wool said.
Severe weather is expected to occur as early as this weekend according to the National Weather Service.
