‘It’s something from the heart;’ Dothan grocery store owner gives thousands of dollars to communities

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Owner and COO Ricky Treadwell of Wall Street Markets is coming straight from the heart and out of his pockets by stepping up to give money for residents in need.

Treadwell owns and operates the local Piggly Wiggly grocery stores.

With all the difficulties people have faced this year, Treadwell felt it was his duty to help by giving money to his employees and wiregrass residents, starting with donating $10,000 to the town of Columbia to help rebuild a fire department that was destroyed.

He then looked to other communities.

“We gave $20,000 to the city of Blakely, Georgia, donated $20,000 to the city of Chipley in Florida, and here in Dothan, we donated $20,000 to the Harbor,” Treadwell said.

Those donations will allow residents to pay bills and get groceries for their families. In addition, he helped out his employees.

As a Christian, who grew up in the church, Treadwell was taught to give back.

Giving all of his employees a $100 bonus is just half of the good deed that Treadwell did to help residents during this trying time. One employee who received this couldn’t be more grateful.

“I really appreciate with Mr. Ricky and Ms. Pam with my cash I just saved that for my essentials; then I bought my groceries with my gift cards at Piggly Wiggly. ” San Harvey said.

“Just during the pandemic, we’ve probably given out close to $200,000” Treadwell said.

Treadwell said he will continue to give back to the community and feels that this continued genuine gesture is just a testament to his faith and shows their commitment to helping the community during this tough time.
