UPDATE: Inmate recaptured after escape from St Clair Correctional Facility

UPDATE: MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In the early morning hours of March 10, 2020, staff at St. Clair Correctional Facility conducted a bed count and discovered inmate Steve Ray Murphy was not in his assigned location. Correctional staff immediately alerted the warden who subsequently notified the Alabama Department of Corrections’ (ADOC) Law Enforcement Services Division (LESD) of a possible escape. Following protocol and out of an abundance of caution to ensure public safety, the decision was made to issue an escape notice while a facility sweep was simultaneously conducted to locate Murphy.

UPDATE: Steve Murphy was recaptured at 07:53 A.M.

St Clair County(WDHN)- Steve Ray Murphy escaped from St Clair Correctional Facility this morning at 12:41 a.m.

He was convicted of murder in 1984.

Murphy is sixty four, five feet and 8 inches and weighs one hundred and fifty-seven pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes. He is possibly in white clothing.
