DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Houston County commission started its budget process to learn the needs in the community.
The needs brought up include the sheriff’s department expanding the jail, roadwork, construction as well as building repairs. According to Commission Chairman, Mark Culver, the commission is aware of the needs but faces a challenge.
“The issue we’ve got is we just don’t have the money to address the needs we’ve got. We’ve been talking about that for several years, too. The commission continues to struggle to figure out exactly how we’re going to create that new revenue in order to address the needs we’ve got to address,” Commission Chairman Mark Culver said.
Culver believes the commission will continue meeting with the department heads to determine which needs are a top priority. Currently, the commission plans to assess what roads need to be repaired the most.
