NEW BROCKTON, Ala. (WDHN) — Ben E. Keith Company was in New Brockton Wednesday for the groundbreaking of their new distribution center.
Ben E. Keith is a food and beverage distributor from Fort Worth, Texas, and they already have a manufacturing center in Elba.
“We’re here in New Brockton today for the groundbreaking of the Ben E. Keith Food Distribution Center, the advanced distribution center,” Governor Kay Ivey said. “This company is the eighth largest food distribution firm in the nation, and we’re awfully proud to have them in Alabama.”
The company plans on investing over $100 million into the project.
The project will create 80 jobs over the next five years and boost New Brockton economically.
“We’re a company that’s all about growing,” said Scott Davison, Ben E. Keith General Manager. “So, the division that I came from in Houston, I was the first salesperson hired in Houston. I was number 1. It was me and a truck driver, and that grew to when I left Houston. We had 375 employees. Now, today, they have almost 500 employees.”
Davison said he hopes to expand and create more jobs as the company moves forward in the area.
“First of all, it sends a strong message that world-class companies are doing business in Alabama, and that’s a strong signal that others can do likewise,” Ivey said. “So, we’re eager to showcase this firm off.”
