DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A gunshot to the eye not only brought a female patient to Southeast Health’s emergency room over the weekend, but also led to a police investigation.
Saturday Dothan Police were notified by the hospital that a victim had been shot in the eye.
“Through the course of the investigation it was determined that it was actually going to be her boyfriend that was the aggressor,” Dothan Police Lieutenant Doug Magill said.
According to police, the victim’s boyfriend has been identified as William Woods. Police were able to locate and detain him.
“They were able to detain him, bring him up here, interviewed him, and at that time got a confession,” Magill said. “He was charged with domestic violence first.”
The shooting’s location is still a grisly sight days later. The shooting took place on the 1000 block of Greentree Avenue. Residents told WDHN the incident occurred late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. A chair at the house spotted with blood sits in the front yard.
The victim was flown to UAB where her prognosis is that she’ll lose her eye, but she should recover. According to police, the shooting stemmed from an argument between the couple.
“There was an argument, according to him there was an argument that stemmed, and he said he inadvertently shot her, and he didn’t intend to shoot her,” Magill said. “But in domestic violence it doesn’t matter.”
Woods is being held on a $60,000 bond and is innocent until prove guilty.
