Gov. Ivey talks gas tax, bridge toll in Barbour County visit

News

EUFAULA, Ala. (WDHN) — The governor made a stop in Eufaula Tuesday morning as part of the cities ongoing bicentennial celebration taking place at the Wallace College Sparks Campus.

While she mainly talked about the history of Barbour County and how grateful she is to be the second-ever female governor, she took a moment to answer some questions about the ongoing gas tax and toll changes coming to Mobile Bay.

“We are widening it to 8 lanes, four on each side, and to widen it, we have to raise the bridge,” Ivey said. “That’s what’s making the cost go up.”

The toll increases along the Jubilee Parkway will range from three to six dollars. It will be used to offset the nearly two billion dollar cost of renovating the bridge while the gas tax that’s been mostly slated for infrastructure will go towards widening the bay area.
