Good samaritans aid trapped disabled occupants of overturned vehicle

MALVERN, Ala.– Congestion on Alabama Highway 52 is what witnesses say caused 2-vehicle collision Friday afternoon, trapping 2 wheelchair-bound individuals in a car.

Witnesses say the van was traveling West on HWY 52 when it tried to go around a stopped vehicle that was turning left onto Purvis Road in Malvern.

The van tried to pass the vehicle and collided head-on with a truck that was headed East.

After colliding, the van then ran off the road and flipped over. The two disabled occupants were unable to get out.

Residents in the area and motorists worked together to help those in the overturned van.

Some directed traffic and others comforted those trapped in the van until emergency personnel and law enforcement arrived.

Witnesses on the scene say the two in the vehicle were expected to be OK.
