Geneva seeing an increase of beach traffic ahead of Memorial Day weekend

GENEVA, Ala. (WDHN) — Several GPS services are routing beach-bound traffic through Geneva and Geneva County.

With the reopening of both Florida and Alabama from COVID-19 guidelines, law enforcement says they’re already seeing an increase in southbound traffic.

Geneva police are taking extra precautions when making a vehicle stop due to the coronavirus but that won’t deter them from stopping dangerous driving.

“We are going to have officers out working the traffic safety grant. We will have additional officers out looking for dangerous drivers and impaired drivers,” Captain Michael McDuffie said.

Captain McDuffie warns drivers to enjoy their beach vacation, but remember to keep it under the speed limits, use seatbelts, and under circumstances will drinking and driving be permitted.
