GENEVA COUNTY (WDHN) — Construction on the new jail is still on-going.
Sheriff Tony Helms tells WDHN that the roof is about to be installed and things are ahead of schedule.
They are anticipating that the jail will be done by mid-February. Once the roof is on, the workers will be able to start working more on the inside.
Sheriff Helms also says that the construction workers have been working hard and they are happy to see the progress.
“I know that when you’re looking at what we did have, and what’s going to be going in, which will be state of the art electronics, state of the art cells, and everything’s going to be so much more organized and more secure. It’s going to be a great thing for the citizens of the county,” Helms said.
It was this time last year that construction began, and the crew was able to work fast to get it back on schedule from the rain in November and December that put them around 40 days behind.
