GENEVA, Ala. (WDHN) — Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms had bad news for his county commission.
Due to heavy rains since the first of the year, Sheriff Helms says construction of the 160-bed 11 million dollar jail is behind schedule. Instead of being completed next month, the State of the Art facility should be ready for occupancy in June.
“We started behind, and then around Christmas, the metal came in for the roof and now we’re about two months behind now,” Helms said.
Sheriff Helms says once the roof is placed on the building, the jail will be about 80% complete.
