GENEVA, Ala. (WDHN) — According to Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms, construction on the new jail is ahead of schedule due to the good weather.
Over the weekend, the inmate count reached 99 inmates in the current 55-year-old jail. The number of inmates is above the maximum recommended number of prisoners acceptable for the jail.
“Sometimes we have to call sheriffs from the adjacent counties to help, and they are generally good about helping with that,” Helms said.
The new Geneva County Jail is expected to be ready for occupancy in February or March of next year.
