In the early 20th century, folks were hung in the Wiregrass for “cattle rustling.”

This week, Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms says his investigators broke up an elaborate “cattle rustling” ring.
Jo Eberly of Ponce de Leon, Florida, and Samson resident Fredrick Lee allegedly falsified death records on cattle at a business outside of Samson, but it turns out the cows were not dead.
The sheriff says the suspects would then sell the cows at auction locations across the Wiregrass and Florida panhandle and collected the profits.
Both face first-degree “theft of property” charges. Eberly has been released on a $30,000 dollar bond.
Lee remains at the Geneva County Jail.
Sheriff Helms says he expects additional theft of property charges to be filed on both suspects in the near future.
