Hartford, Ala. (WDHN)—The first day of school for Geneva County students is up in the air.

At this time, Superintendent Becky Birdsong says the tentative start date is Friday, August 14th.

But, Birdsong is requesting a five-day waiver from the Alabama State Department of Education.

She says additional time is needed for “virtual learning” training.

Birdsong says she hopes to know within the next two weeks if her request to delay the start of school has been granted by the state.
