GENEVA COUNTY (WDHN) — This week, the first wave of proceeds from the six-cent gasoline tax which went into effect September 1 is being distributed. The money is being filtered down from Montgomery to the state’s 67 counties.
Geneva County engineer Justin Barfield says residents will soon see the new pavement on deteriorating streets. Some of the county roads have not been repaved since the 1950s and ’60s.
The Rebuild Alabama Act levies an additional 10-cent excise tax on gasoline and diesel fuel over a several-year period. The next two cents per gallon increase will go into effect on October 1, 2020.
