NEW BROCKTON, Ala. (WDHN) — Gamecock Stadium has been under renovations for quite a while and now it’s completed and ready for the New Brockton community to enjoy the latest additions.
This is what the scene looked like just four months ago and now after a trip back, this is the current look.
“Kinda what sparked the renovation I think they had been talking about this for a long time and then with the influx of kids and our school growing Mr. Killingworth thought it was a good time to tackle this project,” Coach Zack Holmes said.
The over $1 million dollar project has been talked about for about a year but they didn’t break ground until the middle of May. The makeover consisted of flipping the home and away sides, installing handicap accessible aluminum bleachers with 260 reserved seats, and a ticket booth but that’s not all.
“The bathroom facility we got to a point that the crowd was so big here that the bathroom facility was limited so we had to bring portable potties in here for games and now we don’t have to do that the bathroom facility is second to none and then the concession stand behind me that we’re adding..a home and away side one,” Holmes said.
A new fence around the stadium and repainting the rails on the entrance walking ramp are the next finishing steps.
Principal Alonzo Barkley says not only are the student-athletes going to benefit from the nice stadium but it will drive the community to the stadium too.
“Yeah, I think having a fun safe environment where people can come out and enjoy a football game and sporting events in the spring our soccer program will be playing out here and we’re just excited to have it here,” Barkley said.
Principal Alonzo Barkley and Coach Zack Holmes say they can’t wait for the fans to show Gamecock Pride in these bleachers right here for home games next season.
