FCA’s fall night full of faith in the Wiregrass

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Student-Athletes from across the Wiregrass joined together in a night full of faith, prayer, and song.

In 2006, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes held their first Fields Of Faith with just 100 participants, today they celebrate 14 years of showing students the love of Christ.

“FCA is just a local ministry here in Dothan and all over really, it’s throughout the world and it’s to engage in athletics and even not just athletics we go outside of athletics we go just inside of schools to build relationships with Christ. And it’s just to pull the body of Christ together,” said Ryan Smith, FCA area rep.

FCA has over 500 locations nationwide, with 54 groups in the Wiregrass.

“We started out in Dothan High School in the back practice field with just 100 students with Lonnie Cochran which is the main speaker tonight, he was the main speaker then, so tonight we are just coming in to show the love of Christ to the local community and to the church and just show them what FCA is about and what God has in store,” said Smith.

Although COVID-19 changed some of the normal traditions during Fields Of Faith, Smith says the energy and the feeling of the event are still powerful.

“The spirit just moving because of all the music and just people coming up and sharing their testimony and stuff,” said Smith. “You just feel that holy spirit in you, you just feel like gods got a purpose for you, you actually feel wanted when you get here, and even in any FCA events you just feel like God’s got a purpose for you.”

Wednesday night’s event had 1,358 in attendance. If you’d like more information about FCA visit https://www.fca.org/ .
