VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WIAT/AP) — A Birmingham man died Monday after getting injured during an alleged accidental shooting at a Vestavia Hills Chuck E. Cheese, according to the Jefferson County Coroner.

Timothy Roshun Smith Jr., 22, of Birmingham was pronounced dead Monday, April 15 at UAB Hospital. Both Smith and his daughter were hurt when a gun in his diaper bag went off Sunday.

Vestavia Hills police told news outlets that Smith was about to change the girl’s diaper in a car outside the business when the gun fired a single shot, hitting them both. Police said the girl was shot in the leg, and Smith was shot in the chest.

Lt. Michael Keller said investigators believe the man was searching for something inside the diaper bag when he hit the weapon and it fired. He said the Saturday shooting appears to be accidental.

The child’s injuries were reportedly not life-threatening
