Church left drained after secretary is accused of embezzling thousands

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A Dothan church secretary is behind bars after embezzling thousands of dollars.

According to reports, Donna Renee Hall was booked into the Dothan City Jail Wednesday after Cloverdale United Methodist Church discovered she had drained approximately $20,000 from its account—leaving it with just a few hundred dollars.

Sources told WDHN that Hall had told the church her computer had issues so she was unable to produce financial reports.

The discovery came while Hall was on medical leave from work.

Reports also told WDHN the church thinks it will be able to cover upcoming bills, but that the discovery has left its members in shock.
